M.C. Escher Relativity Meaning - Relativity Reimagined!

Relativity Reimagined

A painting Description

As always you are free to interpret this piece however you choose or are led to understand it.

These are simply my own thoughts which I feel inspired to share.

My own interpretations change as I revisit with pieces as time goes on, but these are my initial thoughts at the time of creation.

Throughout this series, “The Awakening of the Senses” I’ve been talking about a sense of knowing, a deep assurance and faith in a concrete foundation; living from a centered and grounded place. This piece, you could say, turns everything on its head! It’s as if what is up is down and the foundation is as airy and free as the sky, almost intangible.

Now we are at “knowing’s” opposite, nothing is firm and there’s more than one perspective that’s true. The lines between what is real and what is only imagination starts to blur. The top of the stairs only brings you to the bottom of the next and the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know. Perhaps you don’t need to know more after all. Perhaps the freedom that comes with letting go & surrendering to the unknown was what we’ve been after all along!

Such a yellow place, full of light! Heavenly and innocent as a child who is open to the world with curiosity, to see what’s possible and to never hold back! A child doesn’t care or think about what’s real or false, they take it all in with eager expectation, accepting whatever comes.

It’s beautiful to humbly admit we don’t have it all figured out and accept the heavily present moment. Like a child, how wonderful to dream up impossible possibilities and believe in them with a faith that has never been denied or questioned! To never limit what we could believe in!

Squishing ourselves down to fit into a cookie cutter with someone else’s shape was never a destiny we were born with. So much freedom and liberation comes when we break free of the old image and identification.

This piece is all about breaking free of boundaries! Watching the old limitations fall away into the burning light of purification and seeing the world anew! Looking at everything from all angles and adopting new perspectives.

When M.C. Escher comes into the picture, a whole new layer of the puzzle unfolds. This painting, “Relativity Reimagined” is a remake of the famous lithograph “Relativity” by Escher. It is the perfect picture to illustrate the sense of sight in this series. Relativity is a word with depth! Within it belongs the ideas of differing perspectives, how opposites rely upon one another to coexist, paradoxes, and the irony of truths.

Relativity is that which is in relation to, or, that which is in relationship with something. That which is seen, is also seen by something and the two are relative to one another, one wouldn’t exist without the other. Separation would not exist without connection. Perhaps the opposites are one, two sides of the same thing. Oneness, Unity, and Connection are at the core of my own personal spiritual belief system. But this is just my way of seeing things, the beauty of your freedom is that you get to choose for yourself how you see things.

This is the sight of the inner eye, the sight of understanding and interpretation. The unblinded eyes that are open enough to see have access to infinite possibilities! These infinite possibilities connect us back to the one possibility, we are The Possibility! The beginning is within us.

When we imagine the world to be a certain way, we envision it, we create it, or recreate it. We see what we believe & we mirror what we believe. To change our perception of the world, or of our circumstances, we must begin on the inside by changing how we identify with these things and the beliefs around them.

We have the ability to change our interpretation and change our focus, to refocus! With reinterpretation comes recreation! Our focus is the creator. What we are aware of, that which has our attention is amplified and magnified. We incorporate into our subconscious mind that which dominates our attention. What we focus upon most often becomes a part of our subconscious and sooner or later we see it materialized in our life experience. Our subconscious mind will rearrange how we are interpreting a situation before it even materializes. The solid physical evidence is only the aftermath of the imagination.

Therefore our spiritual focus is powerful & our imagination is powerful because we use the imagination to focus. Just as we focus our eyes we also focus the mind, seeing with the mind’s eye. Opening the eyes of our hearts opens us up to new beliefs & washes blindness away.

With the mind open we have new perspectives and fear will not dwindle our faith. We have new ways of seeing that override the limitations of fear; belief takes us up into realms of unknowing, where anything & everything is possible. With open eyes we are not blind & with an open mind & heart we are not blind to our pathway.

I envision humanity open, without eyelids closed over the heart, without eyelids closed over perception, without a tinted lens, but rather full of clarity! All eyes focused on the same One thing, the same spiritual Life Force. The center of our focus, the single eye of devotion! Each individual looking from different angles, not one is wrong, not one is not right, both are just perspectives focused on the same fulfilment.

Do we see the same rainbow? Do we understand anything outside of our own personal and unique interpretation? Yet the connection is real, every perspective is connected. All is one. Every human connected to the next; the planet is enveloped in the thinking of humanity, it reaches to its core.

Each heart is its own rainbow eyeball, an inquisitive soul, a wisdom carrier. We carry the infinite wisdom because we carry the infinite perspectives. The infinite connecting pathways of thoughts and ideas feeding off of one another in conversation & carrying momentum of ageless building blocks from one generation to the next. The ability to share with one another through language and the technology which connects one side of the planet to the other.

Focus your observation of life and your perspective on the things that you want to keep seeing, so that they magnify! Just like a magnifying glass, we see clearer and larger than life! We see our dreams come into focus and grow! What have we been magnifying?

“Magnify God, not obstacles” ~Florence Shinn

Magnify peace, joy, & love! Reinterpret all that you see through a loving eye; sifting all things through the eyes of the heart and may all things be seen through the lens of love! Let us take off the sunglasses of blindness and put on the fresh new eyes of a child, who sees with absolute purity, curiosity and acceptance. Can we see ourselves with pure acceptance? What about those in our lives? Can we see all of life’s circumstances with love?

We truly have only one eye, for even though the two eyes in our physical face are separate, they focus together. We are only able to focus on one thing at a time. The two perspectives from the two eyes create dimension to what we are looking at. The same is true of mental and spiritual focus, to focus on The Divine, nature, unity, love & joy, these must be our single focus of faithful devotion for all else is distraction.

You could not exhaust the value in these following words, even if you meditated on them for the rest of your life! These words were spoken by Yeshua and are a clear picture of just what I’m talking about.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” ~Mathew 6:22-24, 33 (you can read the surrounding verses which are just as beautiful at the bottom of this blog post)

This is the picture of singleness of focus, there is One worthy of seeking and everything else naturally falls into place. The fact of the matter is that each of us sees The One just a little differently. Realizing that all people focusing with us in connection, create more dimension to humanity’s understanding of The Life Force. Relativity is realizing our differing perspectives and spiritual beliefs systems are all focused on the same thing and build off of one another, therefore allowing us to step outside of our perspective and see the world from someone else’s staircase.

Having The Eye as the lamp of our bodies, it lights the way and guides us. “What then is our light?” asked Yeshua. What do we see when we look into the mirror? To focus is to direct, to define, to get clarity, it is to light up the pathway. We say, “I AM” to the pathway as it is lit up by our imagination! We shine a light on what we desire and we become the direction as we focus into it, we identify with it; embodying it…(to go back to the meaning of the very first painting in this series.)

Are we shining our light or holding it in? Is the light within us darkened by misdirected focus? By too many desires we have identified with that are from cookie cutter people, imposing their will upon us. The culture, religions, the economy and the health of our planet, do we just accept all these things because we see them happening? Or do we use The Mighty Power within us to re-envision our world, our identity, our circumstances and what is possible?!

What is envisioning if not meditation and prayer? Meditation is the practice of seeing things differently or thinking about things in renewed ways. Prayer is the practice of belief and faith, knowing the power to change the entire world is at hand within us. How many of us will tap into this light?!

Starting with the everyday & ordinary ways we show up in this world, starting with changing the way we see things. Everything you do has an effect on the entire world. It’s not up to any one of us to hold the weight of the world in our mind's eye, but together we must believe in the possibilities of a better world, the possibilities of ourselves rising up to our full potential! Belief is the beginning!

The mirror of who I am is rooted in my beliefs. I have the ability to identify with something more; to redefine myself, and to see myself any way that I choose! So why wouldn’t I choose to magnify myself and build myself up, to see myself as a goddess and queen?

Why for so many years do we hold ourselves in bondage by fear that shuts our eyes. To open our eyes to limitless possibilities we must re-envision who we are. Retune, reprogram, reflect, refocus! This is a physical and spiritual thing all at once, the act of looking deep into the eyes of a friend or lover, we see their spiritual essence. Making eye contact is not always comfortable, it's as if there is something to hide. Opening the spiritual eyes means being human with one another, fearless, vulnerable with nothing to hide, protect, defend, or prove.

May we be open in all ways, being an abundant interpreter and not a blinded madman in the direction we focus and place our attention on. Opening up the eyes of the heart to have empathy and see from another person's perspective, mirroring them, being open to learn from them, being connected with them, and finding some common ground to relate to one another!

If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!?” (there’s a paradox for ya)

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The eye is the lamp of the body.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” ~Mathew 6:19-34
