Step by Step has been a mystery & a prayer throughout painting it. I started with a piece of truth as inspiration but It quickly started speaking to me it in a different way, moving away from my original intention into more of a spiritual life journey, perhaps even a prayer for the journey of my own life.
I was originally inspired to paint these doors when reading Ezekiel 46 in the Bible which talks about the old worship patterns of the ancient Israelites. Based on the moon cycles they would bow down at the gates of the temple. After worshiping, the gates would be left shut behind them & they were not permitted to leave by the way they came in. As if by leaving a different way, they somehow continued in their worship, and continued into new aspects of God’s Presence. Basically it just mentioned gates so many times I had a picture of endless doorways appearing in my mind.
“No one shall return by the way of the gate by which he entered, but each shall go out straight ahead.” ~Ez. 46:9b
We all perceive our life journey in many different ways and it is the same with God's presence. We find new aspects of The Divine in our day to day experiences; like a key to an even deeper awareness of who God is & who we are. A deeper awareness of Wisdom, Guidance or Relief.
We will see God in many new ways depending on what we are going through, each with an underlying lesson to teach us. New aspects of Love being revealed to us based on how Source is showing up for us in each circumstance.
Divine Attributes; like facets in an unending diamond!
This a beautiful picture of our spiritual life's journey, of growth and change within ourselves.
We may have just come through a nasty door of thorns, a hard time in life. Now when we picture ourselves, it’s as if our color is changing, we’re being refined, renewed, healed! We are no longer who we were before, we’re moving on, closer and closer to purity, righteousness, and God “Herself”.
We often like to think in terms of physical and spiritual, not noticing the intersect in every moment. It’s easy to dismiss the spiritual realm and forget we have a journey within it as well.
We can be getting ahead in our physical journey only to fall behind in the spiritual one.
Within this spiritual realm we are being guided. If we are not careful, we may be led by things we do not agree with, that lead us down the wrong paths. But when focused on The One Guide we are always led to the best possible place even when it doesn’t seem like it at the time.
Over and over while painting this piece I heard the gospel song, “Step by Step You Lead Me” playing in my head and being sung out my mouth (as well as over the speaker a few times) & I knew this was another meaning as well.
I hope these following Bible verses speak to you as they have to me & plant this truth deep in your heart.
