Artist Draws Inspiration From the Inner Light
by Alastair Baker News Editor
“There is far more to Matilda Wentzel than meets the eye. This ethereal being belies an inner strength that is not only brave but determined enough to explore the spiritual connections within ourselves, presenting works of such vibrant imagination that you come away thinking that her latest show, ‘The Awakening of the Senses’ is no ordinary art show.
The show, which runs at the Roosevelt Center, Red Lodge, until March 31, is essentially “about the Metaphysical connection of our body in the spiritual realm,” explained Wentzel.”

The Awakening of the Senses Art Show
This series is an illustration of the metaphysical connection of body and spirit. Beginning with simple manifestations of vibration in the body such as goosebumps and moving on to illustrate the five senses, ending at the sixth sense of infinite possibility.
I created this series as a way to unify the seemingly separate realms of spirituality and physicality – a picture of the two as one. Our bodies are tools we use to have two way communication with The Divine Essence; embodying The Divine and awakening to our innate supernatural power.
Each piece illustrates a personal development practice that has helped me to release limitations and show up as my best self. Conveying topics of “Embodiment and Unity”, “Listening and Silence” (hearing), “Identity and the Self Image” (smell), “Perspective” (sight), “Speech” (taste), “Sexuality and Oneness” (Touch), and finally “Intuition and Emotion” (sixth sense).

Art Installation with Random Acts of Silliness
When I heard of the Portals Project I felt like it was created just for me! I often paint about portals and this was a piece I had been wanting to create for years.
After being vandalized in its first location along a walking trail, it finally found a safe home at the Belgrade Bozeman Library in the Children’s Section!

Snowflake Songs Solo Show
By Matilda Wentzel at The Warren Millar Preforming Arts Center, Big Sky Montana
I am extremely thankful to have had this opportunity to see my winter themed work all in one place! Until now, I'd never seen this many pieces of mine hanging together!
It was a dream come true as I remember 3 years ago dreaming up having a body of work to "show for myself". At that time my pieces were selling so quickly I couldn't keep any in stock for displaying. At that time I was just finding my unique style, I remember a time about 4 years ago when I would have never believed I'd find a cohesive style, but naturally with more practice and time it came together without even trying!

“I really want the kids to come away with a love for art,” she said. “And to feel that they are not just like everyone else—that they each have really unique creative aspects that they can dig deeper into.”
Tilly appreciates how young people are Naturally creatively inclined.
“But I think that can be lost,” she said. “If you’re not working that muscle, asking, ‘How do I figure out the deeper parts of me?’ ‘How do I express myself as my own person?’ I want to break their patterns, if they have them already,”
