Papermaking and Book Binding Workshop!
Hope you like to write and draw because that’s what books are for!
Your teacher Matilda has published a book of her poetry and art, so join her for some creative fun and learning, as we will be mixing a little poetry into this class too!
Details: This is a weekend workshop, so please note your $115 goes towards 2 days of class and supplies. Signing up for only one class is not an option.
We will be making paper on Sat. and Binding Books on Sun.
The paper we will be making is artistic and not smooth like what you see in the store. You also won’t be making enough paper to fill the book you make on Sun. You will most likely choose to save your paper for stationary, as it may also be too fragile to bind in a book.
The book you will be making will be small and again it won’t be like what you see in the stores. Since it is most likely your first book, don’t expect it to look like a professional hymnal, but it will get you started on making beautiful books for poetry and notes. I’m sure you’ll be very excited and pleased with your book when it is complete!
Supplies: Many supplies will be included, and you should be able to make paper and a book without bringing any of your own supplies, but please consider bringing these optional supplies:
Extra papers to shred up and turn into new paper (recycle) The more colorful the better! tissue paper is the very best thing you can bring!
Blank pages you can bind into your book, lines or completely blank
Leather to bind to and turn into the cover of your book!
Please consider bringing a blender to make pulp for your paper. We will have a limited number of blenders, but we can take turns. We’ll be taking turns on the other equipment anyways.
Dates: Sat. Aug 2nd and Sun Aug 3rd.
Time: 10am to Noon
Location: In Vinton at the Charles R. Hill Community Center next to the War Memorial, (820 E Washington Ave, Vinton)
