The Dreamiest Spin was born during a four-day art retreat. One of those magical stretches of time where everything slows down just enough for creativity to take the lead. I even did a bit of live painting while a small band played in the background, which felt surreal in the best way. Art, music, movement, all happening at once.
I took a short video during that moment and I’m hoping to share it soon because it really captures the energy of how this piece began.
After the retreat ended, I brought the painting home and gave it the final touches. The moment I added the green dress, everything clicked. That color tied the entire piece together and suddenly the spin felt complete, like the painting finally exhaled.
I’ll be honest. Painting her face made me pause and wrestle a bit. Faces always ask more of you. But in the end, I’m really happy with where it landed. It feels soft, expressive, and true to the moment.
This piece was painted from my own photograph, taken while watching a ballet performance at the Taubman Museum of Art. It’s a real moment, filtered through memory, music, and a little artistic dreaming.
If The Dreamiest Spin speaks to you, it’s available now and ready to find a home where it can be enjoyed every day. It’s one of those pieces that carries calm, movement, and quiet joy all at once.
