Now this is a painting I’ve been working on since May and just completed recently, so it’s one of those that so much contemplation has gone into that I’m not sure where to start when it comes to writing about it. Furthermore, I’ve had the idea for it for even longer, so of course there’s a natural contemplation of the subject matter.
This isn’t just a pretty image, it’s a concept I’ve illustrated to bring visual cues of symbolism as a way to teach…and be taught!
First off, before we get into the heart of its meaning, I want to mention how I got the inspiration for the woman filling herself up with water. This last winter when I was injured and soaking in an epsom salt bath, I had the measuring cup I used to portion out the epsom salt and I was filling it up and pouring it over myself to give my upper body some warm water. It was a small tub, can’t wait to have a big one you can soak your upper and lower body in at the same time! Anyways, the act of doing such took my mind on a trail. I have been focusing on my own inner power for a few years now, versus an old way of thinking where I assigned power to external things, people or experiences. So the thought of filling myself up came to mind in a beautiful picture.
Indeed here in this painting you can see there is a limitless and never ending flow of water being poured from the vessel in her hand, filling up her heart to overflowing!
The vessel is a symbol of the body. We are a consciousness far greater than our physical form. This truth rang so true for me last winter when I felt so stuck in my body, I wanted to go do my regular activities but I could not walk, lay down, sit or stand without pain.
In that same bath I thought, “How did I get stuck in this sculpture of skin?” Of course being injured helped heal my connection with my body and cause me to love it more in the long run. It is so important to take care of our body in this life.
The body is just a vessel, the outer container that holds something else entirely.
That’s why this woman is yellow, like a golden vessel and she has a beautiful crack from her heart.
This is to symbolize that imperfections are a natural part of nature and should never hold us back in showing up to do our work in this world. Even when we consider ourselves to be useless or broken, with time and healing we have even more to offer than we realize.
The deeper meaning I find when contemplating the vessel is that we are a tool, like the pottery of an even greater artist. We have all come into this existence with something beautiful to be offered. Especially when we allow ourselves to be filled up and also held by a greater hand of Love. In the painting we see textured dots floating in along with the water, coming from an outside source, almost moving through the woman and being projected again through her own power. Along with another powerful force, being seen exude from her hands, one of my favorite bodily points of power.
There is so much power moving now!
