Wisdom from the Fountain of Living Waters
Fountain of Living Waters
A painting description with poetry
Original is SOLD
As always you are free to interpret this piece however you choose or are led to understand it.
These are simply my own thoughts which I feel inspired to share.
My own interpretations change as I revisit with pieces as time goes on, but these are my initial thoughts at the time of creation.
There’s nothing quite as peaceful as the winter woods.
While painting this piece the main thought running through my head was abundance of comfort and the guidance that leads us to what we need most. Sometimes guidance causes us to pass up the wonderful things we might have been drawn to and distracted by if not tuned in to what leads us on our way. Sometimes other amazing things cannot fully be enjoyed until the deepest desires of our souls are met.
When I see this painting, I see a river flowing with grace, floating along a path of least resistance, carrying with it the abundance of knowledge, guidance, comfort, and all things presently needed. Not a water from a source of insignificance, but a stream given from the fingertips of God; The True Source.
There’s stillness in its power, the quiet snowflakes slowly piling up over the trees are made of the same stuff, that same life giving fountain spread out over everything.
There are lots of options on this journey, doors which lead places we can only imagine, I want to open them all, step into a whole new world and be lost in the joy there. But things point in different directions, so much confusion on which way to turn, what to follow, and which whispers to tune into. Why would the doors spark such a curiosity when the trees themselves point a different way? Perhaps I’ll come back to them when I have the strength to open them.
Somehow the waterfall has a call on me, I’ll choose that door. I’ll worship at the foot of a fountain; at hands so full they overflow. Somehow I don’t need anything else.
And for the doors, it’s otherworldly behind those, they’ll mean something different each time you open them.
These beautifully poetic verses inspired the imagery and in turn the image inspires these words to circle back around into my mind.
“They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.” ~Psalm 36:8-9
“....the Lord, the fountain of living water.” ~Jeremiah 17:13c
“Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me. By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.” ~Psalm 42:7-8
“But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” ~Amos 5:24
“For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." ~Revelation 7:17
“And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps.” ~Revelation 14:2
I've been in the lost moments of desperation
Flooded and pressed down by the cages of lack
Squashed and forgotten in the dark caverns of fear
But do you think I let that hold me down for one second?
Well I did.
I used to,
Before the door of light opened in my eyes,
When the Hand reaching out was still invisible to me,
Once when doubt still had the louder argument.
But the Hand never gave up its tug of hope
The tug of war between the spiral and the Strength;
The Strength overflowing from its fingertips like a waterfall.
It wasn't me who decided to be free,
I just chose to forget,
In a blissful surrender of desperation.
Now you'll find me building bridges over the canyons of lacking hearts,
And swinging down from the mountains just far enough to see the dark shadows of the caverns,
Never strong enough to lure me back in.
You have become the light of the Sun in a mind of mazes!
