A tool for dealing with worry and anxiety, based on Micah 6:1-8
“Hear what the Lord says: Arise, plead your case before the mountains and let the hills hear your voice.
‘O my people, what have I done to you? How have I wearied you? Answer me!
For I brought you up from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery’
With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with caves a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgressions, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
~Micah 6:1, 3-4a, 6-8 ESV Bible
These verses point me towards having a conversation with The God. Finding a place to meet or to walk with him. It does not have to be a real place, it’s more of a state of mind. A peaceful spirit even in the midst of chaos or a quiet mind in the everyday routine. Sometimes I struggle with remaining in Peace & walking with The Presence, constantly being enticed by the lies of worry.
So when I read the above verses it really struck me that God would ask,
“Do I add worries to you? Answer me!”
I realized for the first time that God is asking me questions & he wants me to answer him. It almost seems impossible to find this kind of connection, but God desires a two way conversation.
If I were to acknowledge God asking me each morning, “How will I add worries to you today?”
I could answer, “My Guide, you are too loving & in control to intentionally add worries and stress into my day. Ask me a better question!” Centering my focus from the negative to The Truth.
As I learn and become more trusting & less foolish, I have a chance for more growth. The questions God can ask me are more fulfilling & less hypothetical. Maybe instead, God will ask, “How will I take care of you today?” or “How will I show you my presence today?”
I invite you to use this “God Asks” tool along with me each day. Use a journal to record answers that God is desiring to hear from you. Sometimes the act of writing things down will help you remember them easier. It is the same with questions, they help to reiterate points and fix things in your brain long term.
