Revisiting Painful Places
I was re-reading some old poetry I wrote in high school recently, I noticed an overall theme of having very, very low self-esteem.
And sometimes I am prone to think that these days I have such low self-worth, but in comparison I have come so far and I didn't even realize it until I revisited those painful poems from years back.
It's so important to revisit painful places, even the ones that you've always remembered & have purposefully left in the closet.
It is within those painful places you find the most liberating truth.
It will be different for each individual, but for me the other day, I just realized that yes, I may not have a perfectly positive view of myself, but compared to where I was a few years ago I have come so far.
It's very easy to overlook how far you've come and how much you've learned, how much more of yourself you've accepted & grown to love.
Cut yourself some slack, perfection will always try to loom over you, but it doesn't have the best of you! You're so much better than you used to be! More you, more liberated, & imperfect as you continue to learn!
